5 things without which I cannot call myself a musician

It’s been a while since I have been producing music for various artists in and around the city, there are so many things which I have learnt and still doing. These are the top 5 points which have made an impact on my musical career.

1. Be on your toes always: Unlike others who work for 8 hours a day, I do not keep an option to limit my working hours (at least at this stage of my career, I really had to season my mind to do it) you never know how time flies when you’re making a song and I would never want time to limit me from that immense joy I get when I see the final product.

2. Be disciplined : Work discipline is something which got me to make the best use of time and creativity. A planned 2 hour session is better than being haphazard and spending 12 hours for doing the same.

3. Enjoy the beauty of music : I realised that I could come up with better ideas when I started to indulge myself into any composition with out being biased towards any genre. That really expanded the horizon of my creativity.

4. Skill doesn’t take the first place : I often used to think, only if one shred his/her guitar at 200 bpm makes him/her a better musician, I was wrong, in fact I was a fool! There were many other factors (the main ones mentioned above) which I failed to realise then, but with time and experience I did correct myself, which made me better as a musician. Out of all the factors, skill never held the first place, mere skill without the ethics (of being a musician) never made a fine musician. I do not mean to say anything negative of being incredibly talented and skilled, with all the ethics and no skill made no fine musician either!

5. Hardwork Dedication and Humility : Well, this should have been the first. Without slogging oneself off, nothing can really be achieved! Being musician, fame always knocks at the door, it is a side effect which is difficult to avoid, no matter how famous you get, STAY HUMBLE! Remember, PRIDE is the beginning of downfall!
